How much should I bring to Japan?

• Please bring cash 200,000 in YEN or equivalent US dollars and more as living expenses for the first 3 months.
• You need to bring Y300,000 and more for the initial cost if you would like to get a new iPhone
• You usually start a part-time job in 2 weeks or so after your enrollment, but you will be paid after 2 months. You need money for living expenses until the first pay day

When you bring money to Japan for living expenses

• Please make sure to bring the following with you along with the money. They are required for your visa extension in Japan.
1. Bank statement which shows your financial sponsor has withdrawn cash from his/her bank.
2 Receipt for currency exchange to JPY
• Please deposit all money you bring to your bank as soon as you open a bank account in Japan
• If you carry a large amount of cash with you, you will declare before leaving your country. You also need to declare at the airport in Japan when you carry one million JPY or more (cash or travelers check). Please make sure to keep a receipt of declaration in either case.
• If you need more money for living expenses, your sponsor will make an international remittance to your bank account in Japan. Money brought to you by another person is not permitted because of possible disadvantage for your visa extension in Japan.
• You can open a bank account in Japan which accepts international remittance 6 months after your entrance to Japan. If you will need money for living expenses by then your financial sponsor can send money through international remittance service by WESTERN UNION
