When someone hears cherry blossoms, the first country that pops into mind is ‘JAPAN’. But did you know, you can also find cherry blossoms in most Asian countries? Yes, that’s a fact! You can also see this pink tree in Taiwan, Vietnam, Korea, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and China. And actually even in our country, in the Philippines- there is!

Based on the article published by GMA News, you can find cherry blossom trees in some parts of the Philippines like in Haight’s Farm in Benguet called as Sakura Park, wherein the planting of the pink tree was way back 2016 to celebrate the ties between the Kochi prefecture and Benguet province. And because of the cold weather of Benguet, they could let it bloom.

Going back to the first question, why is JAPAN the first country that pops in mind when asked about cherry blossoms? We know you are curious, so are we. Based on an article published by Japan National Tourism Organization, “Sakura” or Cherry Blossoms symbolize human life, transience and nobleness. It is originally used to divine the year’s harvest. It even came to embody wabi-sabi philosophy and Shinto ideals of impermanence, hope, and renewal. Apart from these cultural significance, the country also celebrates a lot of events, festivals and even tours to showcase the beauty of it. And the most common activity during the Sakura season is “HANAMI” or cherry blossom viewing.

Hanami represents a deep-seated appreciation for the fleeting beauty of nature, a theme resonating through the heart of Japanese culture. It’s a time when friends and families gather, not just to enjoy the company of food and drink, but to reflect on the thought of ephemeral beauty.
